In future climate change will seriously undermine efforts for sustainable development because it will inflate the risk of natural disasters such as forest fires. This will ultimately increase the phenomenon of desertification.
Aim of the proposed project is the creation of infrastructures to protect the forest ecosystem and retrieve burned areas, creating sustainable development works in semi mountainous forest areas in relation to timber, alternative tourism and alternative energy sources and ultimately to develop skills of young researchers in tools and techniques to support research. We applied the above in typical semi mountainous forest areas where this activity is central, pivotal importance.
The following work packages with expected results are:
- Preventive measures to attitude forest fires -Innovative design-based prevention tools to extinction the fires. -Business plan to drawn up forest maps, monitoring controls of land use, land use maps, zoning plan. -Zoning plan. -Land planning criteria.
- Original ideas for rectification burnt forest areas -Original erosion works to protect the soil and suggestions for the management of burned vegetation. -Measures for protecting water resources. -Proposals for employment of the young people in fire protection.
- Innovative development infrastructures -Exploitation of natural resources. -Alternative tourism. -Farming (bio alimentation). -Alternative energy resources -Objective methods of Environmental Impact Assessment for each proposed work.
- Developing the skills of young researchers -Seminars in GIS software. -Seminars in AutoCAD software. -Seminars in GPS-HEPOS, GALILEO, etc. -Support for postdoctoral and doctoral research. -Invitation of foreign experts. -Reformation of Forestry studies, aiming in new fields of employment and the adaption in the specifications of studies in the E.U. -Publications, patents, ideas.
