INFRASTRUCTURE SYSTEM OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF MOUNTAINOUS FOREST AREAS

Abstract: 

The aim of the proposed project is the creation of infrastructures in order to protect the forest ecosystem and to retrieve the burned areas, as well as to create sustainable development works in mountainous forest areas in relation to timber, alternative tourism and alternative energy sources and certainly to develop the skills of young researchers in tools and techniques to support the specific research. We applied the above proposal in typical mountain research areas.

The following workpackages with the expected results are proposed as:

  • 1st WP "Preventive measures to control the attitude of forest fires" Innovative design-based prevention tools for fire extinction Business plan to draw up forest maps for monitoring land use control Spatial planning Land planning criteria.
  • 2nd WP "Original ideas for the retrieved burnt forest areas" Original erosion works to keep the soil and suggestions for the management of burned vegetation Measures for protecting water resources Employment proposals for young people to work in fire protection.
  • 3rd WP "Innovative development infrastructures" Exploitation of natural resources. Alternative tourism Farming (bio alimentation) Alternative energy resources Objective methods of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for each proposed work.
  • 4th WP "œDeveloping the skills of young researchers" Seminars in GIS software Seminars in AutoCAD software Seminars in GPS-HEPOS, GALILEO, etc. Support for postdoctoral and doctoral research Invitation of foreign experts Reformation of the forestry studies in adaptation to the specifications of the studies in the E.U. Publications, patents, ideas Pilot application of the above proposals in forest mountainous regions: (Metsovo (Epirus) Pertouli, Kisavos (Thessaly), Pisoderi (Western Macedonia), Taxiarxis, Chortiatis, Lailias (Central Macedonia), Kara Dere (Eastern Macedonia).
