ANALYSIS OF SUPPLY AND PRODUCTION SYSTEMS: AN INTEGRATED APPROACH

Abstract:

In nowadays, it has been recognized the necessity for development of integrated numerical approaches, methods and tools in Supply-Demand Networks (SDN) or Supply and Production Systems (SPS).

The aim is to reduce both the initial investment and operation costs, to increase productivity, the on-going operation and to improve the responsiveness to the variations of the products supply and demand. These targets may be reached by examining simultaneously the various levels of design and operation of the SDN/SPS and by the co-ordination of the full range of supply, production and distribution of the products.

The main objective of this research proposal is the development of methods, algorithms and numerical tools in order to achieve the global optimization of SDN/SPS and the maximum level of customer service.

The present research proposal consists of the following work-packages (WP):

  1. Literature Review and Research of SDN/SPS in Greece.
  2. Strategic Design of integrated SDN/SPS.
  3. Tactical Design of integrated SDN/SPS.
  4. Operational Issues on the Analysis of integrated SDN/SPS.

The deliverables of this research proposal are

  • a good number of journal and conference publications that are to be extracted from the analysis of the various models of the integrated SDN/SPS and
  • a number of various implemented algorithms and techniques which will be available to the user in an easy and efficient format to solve design and operational problems of integrated SDN/SPS.

The research is going to be undertaken from four qualified research teams with the aim to promote the synergy of Operational Research, Business Administration and the Development of numerical tools for manufacturing and logistics/supply systems.
