ZONING PLAN OF THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF ISLAND FOREST AREAS

Abstract:

In the future, climate change will considerably undermine sustainable development efforts since natural disaster risks, such as forest fires, will rise. The occurrence of desertification will intensify. Therefore, creating an integrated spatial planning scheme through interdisciplinary and international cooperation is essential.

The aim of this project is

  • the creation of an integrated spatial planning scheme focusing on the establishment of land uses,
  • the protection of forest ecosystems and the retrieval of burned areas,
  • the creation of sustainable development works in island forest areas in relation to timber, alternative tourism and alternative energy sources and, finally,
  • the development of skills in young researchers in tools and techniques to support this research.

The above proposal will be applied in the research areas. To materialize the above, the following workpackages were proposed:

  1. Preventive measures to control forest fires.
  2. Original ideas for burnt forest areas retrieval.
  3. Innovative development infrastructures.
  4. Developing young researchers skills.
