PROFILE

The Educational Television was established in 1977 and is an innovative institution of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs. It aims to offer modern and complex forms of knowledge. It has been supporting education without interruption over the years through the production and broadcast of TV programs but also through the distribution of its program to the teaching community in the form of DVDs to support the educational process in Primary and Secondary Education.

Its productions have been broadcasted through the open, public television (ET1), the satellite program (ERT World) and the Parliament channel, covering the entire country and a large part of the emigrant Hellenism, by keeping global reach. More than 600 cultural and educational shows are being presented annually. These productions are a modern, alternative, audiovisual, educational proposal and address students and educators of all levels as well as the general public.

The educational television has emerged internationally as a mechanism for the diffusion of general education and information through distance education programs and broadcasts. According to a study by the company Hellastat, the Educational Broadcasting Corporation is established in the minds of the educational community as “highly profiled and inspires confidence, while the programs are welcomed by the vast majority of teachers.” Furthermore, the aim is to continue improving services, taking advantage of opportunities provided by digital technologies, entering into new partnerships and launching new activities.

…and the transition to the digital age

The aim is for the educational television to reconnect with the young audience moving from traditional media to the digital age where every person is also becoming a “Medium” for knowledge transfer.

The Educational Television supports students and teachers in modern schools by encouraging active learning, team participation and collaboration, and by attributing added value to web communities. It constitutes a point of cultural reference by preserving consistently very considerable evidence of educational television production, but also by promoting it through sophisticated forms of digital content distribution.

Towards this direction, there is a continuous effort to upgrade the website of the educational television www.edutv.gr, through which the user may have access to video streaming or to video-on-demand, taking advantage of a series of digital services. Plans are being made in order to integrate podcasts of radio- broadcasts to the website.

The Educational Television enters a digital era and becomes interconnected to the New Digital School and to the whole school community. Learning is considered to be a continuous process and EduTV considers itself as part of this process with the support of its multimedia platform. This platform hosts most social media and offers to the school community the appropriate tools to design and produce their own multimedia projects.

It undertakes an active role towards interconnecting the New School to the student-creator / researcher / civilian of the world. It contributes to the development of the audiovisual education. It facilitates User Generated Video and User Generated Content by taking advantage of the existing educational videos. Students may re-use, design, upload, share and evaluate the videos.
