MEDITERRANEAN STUDIES: STUDY OF INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENTS IN A TRADITIONALLY SENSITIVE AREA

The Mediterranean area has always been and it will remain an important center of social and political processes and reclassifications. For this reason, the developments, the course and the future of the area attract the strong interest of Greece as well as of the most important international governments (USA, Russia, China) and institutional actors, such as the European Union and NATO.

Obtaining high quality training and specialization as far as the Mediterranean is concerned, offers undoubtedly an important, comparative advantage to those interested in dealing with the wider international developments.

The Master’s program «Political, International and Economic Relations in the Mediterranean» of the Department of Mediterranean Studies, University of the Aegean, is the only program which offers scientific specialization in the Greek higher education and a high level of knowledge and understanding on the political, social, economic and international developments, which take place in the highly sensitive area of the Mediterranean.

MASTER’S PROGRAM WITH AWARDS

The Master’s Program: “Political, Economic and International Relations in the Mediterranean”, operating since the 2004 –2005 academic year in the context of Department of Mediterranean Studies of University of the Aegean, in Rhodes.

The goals of the modern postgraduate program focus on the changing relationship of the Mediterranean subsystem, in relation to the European and broader international context and the role of international and regional actors across the region of the Mediterranean. Furthermore, the program focuses on the study of the political, economic and social problems taking place in the sensitive area of the Mediterranean as well as in the analysis of “traditional” disagreements and confrontations, current threats and security challenges and the role of Greece in the Mediterranean.

With the contribution of internationally renowned teachers and guests / speakers from the academic, research, diplomatic area as well as from the area of Media from Greece and other Mediterranean countries, the postgraduate program offers to its participants a high level of theoretical and methodological education. Mostly, though, it offers focused insight in the complex political, social, economic and geopolitical status quo of the Mediterranean area, so that graduates may claim successfully their next steps in the national and/ or international professional and academic arena.

AWARD FROM THE PARLIAMENTARY ASSEMBLY OF THE MEDITERRANEAN

The Master’s program «Political, International and Economic Relations in the Mediterranean» of the Department of Mediterranean Studies, University of the Aegean, in Rhodes, has been awarded by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean the prize “PAM Award 2010” (Morocco, October 30, 2010).

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean consists of the national parliaments of all the Mediterranean countries and it is situated in Malta. It organizes the annual awards after receiving suggestions by the national delegations, for academic and research activities, which promote cooperation between the Mediterranean States.
